☀️ Today’s Weather

Saturday's actually a nice one to start… mostly cloudy but warm, with highs around 67°F (about 20 degrees above average, if you can believe it). Enjoy it while it lasts, because storms are rolling in for the afternoon and evening, so if you're heading out to catch the SU lacrosse doubleheader or any outdoor plans, try to get out earlier in the day.

Easter Sunday is a different story entirely… heavy rain and thunderstorms greet the morning, and temperatures go into freefall all day long, dropping from the low 50s at sunrise all the way down to near 39 by dinnertime. Pack an extra layer in that Easter basket.

🗞️ Top Stories

1. Tyler Betsey Headed for the Transfer Portal After just one season in Syracuse, SU men's basketball forward Tyler Betsey is reportedly planning to enter the transfer portal. It's a blow for a program still building under Gerry McNamara, who's been busy reshaping his roster and coaching staff this offseason. Orange fans, buckle up, the portal era waits for no one.

2. SU Men's Lacrosse Star About to Make History One of Syracuse's own is on the verge of breaking the all-time scoring record in program history, which, for a school with the lacrosse legacy of SU, is kind of a big deal. He'll have a shot to do it Saturday against No. 2 North Carolina, so it's worth tuning in if you're a lax fan (or just a fan of history being made in your backyard).

3. Cortland County Passes 3-Foot Passing Law Cortland County has officially approved a law requiring drivers to give at least three feet of space when passing cyclists and pedestrians. It's a meaningful step for road safety in a region where biking season is just getting started, and it puts Cortland in line with similar laws already on the books in other parts of New York State.

📅 Events

  • SU Drama's A Rebel Prayer — Running through Saturday, April 5 at Syracuse Stage. A brand-new musical about protest, art, and loss. Great way to spend a rainy afternoon if the storms chase you indoors.

  • Beginnings: A New Century of Associated Artists of CNY — Through Saturday, April 5 at City Hall Commons. Free centennial art show with paintings, photography, glass, fiber art, and more. No ticket, no problem.

  • Maple Syrup Celebration at Critz Farms — Sunday, April 6, 9 AM–6 PM in Cazenovia. Wagon rides, maple demos, a breakfast buffet, and all the family fun you can handle. Fair warning: the weather Sunday is rough, so dress accordingly and maybe go for the earlier seatings.

  • Easter Brunch at Marriott Syracuse Downtown — Sunday, April 5, seatings at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 2 PM in the Grand Ballroom. The Easter Bunny will be there, and so will a very nice spread, but reservations are a must, so don't wait.

🏀 Sports

  • New York Yankees (6-1): The Yanks are off to a hot start and host the Marlins for a Saturday night matchup (7:05 PM ET) and a Sunday afternoon finale (1:35 PM ET) at Yankee Stadium. With a 6-1 record, they look like the team to beat early on — let's hope they keep it going.

  • New York Mets (3-4): The Mets head into a late Saturday night game (9:05 PM ET) against the Giants, with both clubs sitting near .500. Not a must-win, but they could use the momentum.

  • New York Knicks (50-28): The Knicks wrapped up a blowout win over the Bulls on Friday night, 136-96. They've got nothing to prove this late in the regular season, but it's always nice to see them rolling heading into the playoffs.

  • Syracuse Men's Lacrosse (9-2): The Orange head to Chapel Hill Saturday at 2 PM ET to face No. 2 North Carolina in what could be one of the bigger regular-season games of the year. Oh, and that all-time scoring record might fall while they're at it. Set a reminder.

  • Syracuse Women's Lacrosse (10-3): Right behind the men, the No. 3 women's team takes the field at 4 PM ET Saturday at No. 17 Duke, looking to push their winning streak to 11. Ten straight wins doesn't happen by accident, let's see if they can keep it going on the road.

Happy Easter weekend, CNY. Stay dry out there Sunday, and we'll see you on the other side (Monday morning).
