☀️ Today’s Weather

Wednesday is going to be one of those days where you should probably bring an umbrella just in case. The morning looks mostly cloudy with maybe a stray sprinkle here and there, but also some sunshine trying to peek through mid-morning. As the afternoon rolls on though, expect the rain to pick up with a chance of downpours and even some thunder, so plan outdoor errands for earlier in the day. High of 64, which is about as seasonable as it gets for late April in CNY.

🗞️ Top Stories

1. A Syracuse man showed no remorse and a lot of smirking

David Huff admitted in Onondaga County Court to killing his 11-year-old son and his girlfriend with a shotgun, and court video captured him smiling and laughing throughout the proceeding. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, which in this case felt about right to everyone in the room except, apparently, Huff himself.

2. A Hamilton man who played the role of trusted neighbor and financial advisor for decades has finally answered for it

Miles "Burt" Marshall, 74, pleaded guilty Tuesday to running a Ponzi scheme for over 30 years that stole more than $50 million from nearly 1,000 investors across Madison County and nearby areas. He promised an "Eight Percent Fund" with guaranteed returns, then used the money to pay earlier investors and fund his own shopping, travel, and yoga studios while his clients lost their life savings. He faces four to 12 years in prison and owes victims roughly $90 million, though virtually all his assets were already liquidated in bankruptcy, meaning most victims will see pennies on the dollar.

3. Salt City Market, downtown Syracuse's beloved food hall, has officially banned unaccompanied minors on weekdays during and after school hours

After months of trying to manage an uptick in theft, drug use, fighting, gambling, and other behavior among students, the market said it attempted a limited-entry approach for two months before concluding a full ban was the only workable solution. They were clear that they love their teenage customers but simply ran out of options to keep everyone safe.
