☀️ Today’s Weather

After a near-record cold start this morning, we're finally getting a break. Highs are climbing to 52°F today, which is going to feel downright tropical compared to what we woke up to. Expect some hazy sunshine early before clouds roll in by midday, and keep a light jacket handy because scattered showers are expected to move in before sunset and stick around overnight. South winds at 5–10 MPH, so at least it won't be a bitter one.

🗞️ Top Stories

1. Father-Son Landlords Poisoned 7 Syracuse Kids with Lead The NY Attorney General reached a settlement with two Syracuse landlords, a father and son, after seven children were poisoned by lead at their properties. The kicker? Their address on tax records traces back to a suburban P.O. box. The settlement is a win for tenant safety, but it's a tough reminder of how lead hazards are still a very real problem in older Syracuse housing stock.

2. Onondaga Lake's Fish Are Still Not Safe to Eat, A Decade After the Cleanup It's been ten years since Honeywell wrapped up one of the most expensive Superfund cleanups in U.S. history on Onondaga Lake, but a new report shows mercury levels in the fish people are actually catching are still elevated. The data is admittedly spotty, but the advice from health officials hasn't changed: be cautious. For a lake that's become a legitimate recreational gem over the last decade, it's a frustrating reminder that "cleaned up" doesn't always mean "all clear."

3. Bada Bing Fights Back: Adult Business Sues Syracuse After Shutdown The adult business "Bada Bing" is taking the city of Syracuse to court after code enforcement shut it down. The lawsuit puts a spotlight on how the city enforces, or selectively enforces, its codes against certain types of businesses. The Syracuse Common Council also separately moved this week to clarify its entertainment license application process after things got a little murky. A lot going on in city hall lately.
