☀️ Today’s Weather

It's a blue-sky kind of Monday to start the week, with some puffy clouds rolling in through the late morning and afternoon. There is a slight chance of a few sprinkles, especially if you're south or southeast of the city, so maybe keep that umbrella within arm's reach between late morning and mid-afternoon. Temperatures will stay on the cooler side, topping out around 59 degrees with a breezy northwest wind picking up in the afternoon and gusting to 25 mph, but all in all it's still a pretty nice May day.

Man Who Shot Three Syracuse Officers Formally Charged With Attempted Murder 55-year-old Rodney Vanderpool appeared in court Sunday after being accused of shooting three Syracuse Police officers, triggering a nine-hour standoff at Pioneer Homes near downtown. All three officers have since been released from the hospital, which is the good news here. Vanderpool's lawyer says he suffers from multiple mental health issues, and he is being held without bail.

2. Over 6,600 Orange Grads Cross the Stage on Mother's Day Syracuse University held its 2026 commencement Sunday, and NBC Sports anchor Mike Tirico delivered the keynote, urging graduates to hold onto their curiosity and childlike wonder as they head out into the world. It was a bittersweet ceremony too, as outgoing Chancellor Kent Syverud was absent due to illness, and the crowd made sure to acknowledge him. SUNY ESF also sent off more than 400 of its own graduates the same weekend.

3. Syracuse Men's Lacrosse Survives a Nail-Biter Against Yale The Orange men's lacrosse team edged Yale 16-15 in the NCAA first round Sunday, punching their ticket to the quarterfinals in what sounds like it was a stressful 60-plus minutes. The women's side, unfortunately, had a tougher outcome, falling to Navy 11-10 in overtime in the second round. One step forward, one heartbreaker, that's tournament lacrosse.
