☀️ Today’s Weather
Monday is shaping up to be one of the nicer days we've seen in a while. Expect a foggy and chilly start in the low 30s, but the sun takes over quickly and by lunchtime you're looking at the mid-60s. Temperatures climb into the low 70s through the late afternoon, so if you've been waiting to eat outside or take a walk, today is your window.
🗞️ Top Stories
1. Shots Fired at the White House Correspondents' Dinner The annual gathering of journalists and political figures turned chaotic Saturday night when a gunman opened fire near the ballroom at the Washington Hilton, sending guests diving to the floor and forcing President Trump and the First Lady to be rushed out by Secret Service. The suspected shooter, identified as Cole Tomas Allen of California, had allegedly written a manifesto targeting Trump administration officials including FBI Director Kash Patel. No officials were harmed, Allen is in custody, and federal investigators are now digging into his background and motives. It was a wild, alarming night in Washington, and the story is very much still developing.
2. CNY Sends a Wave of Orange to the NFL It was a big weekend for local football pride. North Syracuse native Mike Washington Jr. was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the only Syracuse-area product actually drafted this cycle. But the undrafted free agent haul was nothing short of impressive. Seven Syracuse players signed as undrafted free agents, with punter Jack Stonehouse heading to the Houston Texans, Dan Villari signing with the Los Angeles Rams, Kevin Jobity joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, Da'metrius Weatherspoon staying in New York with the Buffalo Bills, and Dion Wilson Jr. landing with the Baltimore Ravens. David Reese and Devin Grant also signed with the Chargers. Not a bad weekend for the Orange.
3. A 99-Year Syracuse Institution Is Closing Its Doors Dunk and Bright Furniture has been a fixture of Syracuse retail since before most of us were born, and now the family-owned store's South Salina Street location is calling it quits. The family says they'll consolidate everything over to their Clay store, so the business isn't gone entirely, but the city location closing after nearly a century is a genuine moment for anyone who has furnished a CNY home over the past few decades. It's the kind of news that hits harder than you expect.
